Her entry into cinema, however, was far more complex. In the late 1970s, while she was already a popular singer, a different actress sharing the stage name "Dilber Ay" appeared in a series of adult-oriented films, causing a lasting confusion in the public eye. This "other" Dilber Ay, whose real name was Gülşen Demirci, became a star of the erotic film wave. Later in her career, the singer Dilber Ay would also act, most notably earning the "Best Supporting Actress" award at the 14th International Golden Cocoon Film Festival for her role in the 2006 film Beynelmilel (The International). Her life's dramatic story was eventually turned into the biographical film Dilberay in 2022.
